Shopify migration services
Migrate to Shopify with a redirect map, not a prayer.
Shopify migration for stores on Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or another Shopify store. Every URL mapped before launch, every order and customer carried across, and a plain list of what does not move. Most agencies would rather you did not read it.
Where are you moving from?
BigCommerceto Shopify
Every URL changes on the way out, so every URL gets a 301 before launch.
Screaming Chicken moved 2025, live below
What breaks, and what we do
BigCommerce lets you shape product and category URLs however you like. Shopify does not: everything lives under /products/ and /collections/. Payment processing problems and checkout limits are the usual reasons stores leave.
We crawl the old site, map each URL, rebuild the navigation so returning customers do not get lost, and submit the new sitemap on launch day.
WooCommerceto Shopify
The store moves fine. The 40 plugins holding it together do not, so each one gets a named replacement.
What breaks, and what we do
We list every plugin, name the Shopify app or native feature that replaces it, and build the two or three that have no replacement.
Product, customer and order exports from WordPress are messy. Expect us to clean them before they are loaded, and to show you the counts on both sides before we switch.
Magentoand Adobe Commerce, to Shopify
Attribute sets, customer groups, tier pricing, 30 to 100 extensions. We read your database before we quote.
What breaks, and what we do
Magento stores carry the most structure of any platform we migrate: configurable products, store views, customer groups and extensions that each need a decision.
The free audit reads your database first. Then you get a written plan: what maps to Shopify natively, what needs Shopify B2B or an app, and what is worth leaving behind.

Store-to-store moves and the 50,000-variant ceiling. We scheduled 200,000 products around it.
Bolton Engineering 200,000+ products, live below
What breaks, and what we do
Store-to-store moves, catalog restructures, Plus upgrades, splitting one store into several regions. They look simple. They are not, once metafields, metaobjects and 50,000 variants are involved.
Past 50,000 variants, Shopify allows only 1,000 new variants a day. Large catalogs are scheduled in waves and reconciled against source counts after each one.
Wix, Squarespace, Volusionand custom builds, to Shopify
Small catalogs, ugly exports. Usually the fastest moves we do, if the redirect map is done properly.
What breaks, and what we do
Exports from these platforms were never designed to leave, so products and customers are cleaned by hand before import. The URL problem is the same as everywhere else: every old path gets a 301, and self-migrated stores lose rankings because that step gets skipped.
What happens to your Google rankings.
Rankings can wobble for a week or two while Google recrawls. Whether they come back is decided by the redirect map, so we build it first.
Crawl everything
Every URL on the old store, plus every URL Google ever sent a click to.
Map, one row per URL
No wildcards, no "redirect everything to the homepage". You approve it.
Load redirects before DNS moves
All 301s live and tested while the old store is still selling.
Watch for 30 days
Search Console and the 404 report, checked daily. Slips get fixed the same day.

What moves to Shopify. And what does not.
No platform moves everything. Tap any item for the honest version. Every "does not move" has a plan.
Catalog
Products, variants, SKUs, prices, stock, imagesMoves
Exported, cleaned, imported in waves and reconciled against source counts. Options are restructured where Shopify's per-product variant limits apply.
Descriptions, SEO titles, meta descriptionsMoves
HTML is cleaned of old theme markup so it renders properly. Existing titles and metas are kept, not rewritten, unless you ask.
Categories and nested menusMoves
Categories become collections. Deep trees become menus plus filters. The customer's path to a product gets shorter, not longer.
Custom fields, attributes, spec tablesMoves
Mapped to metafields and metaobjects. On Bolton Engineering this was the bulk of the work: every spec table came across intact.
People and money
Customer accountsMoves
Names, emails, addresses, tags, marketing consent, order totals. Every customer exists on the new store before launch.
Customer passwordsDoes not
No platform exports password hashes and Shopify does not import them. Customers get an account activation email at launch. We write it, time it, and test it, so it reads like your brand and not like a phishing attempt.
Order historyMoves
Imported as historical orders so customers see them in their account and your team can look them up. Original order numbers are kept where the source platform exports them.
Gift card balancesPartly
Balances are re-issued as new Shopify gift cards or store credit. The old codes stop working, so we email the new ones before the switch.
Discount codesRebuilt
Shopify's discount rules differ from every other platform's. Active codes are rebuilt to behave the same way; expired ones are retired.
SubscriptionsPartly
Subscriber records move through the subscription app's migration. Saved card tokens move processor to processor, never through us, and some customers will be asked to re-enter a card.
B2B customer groups and tier pricingRebuilt
Rebuilt with Shopify B2B on Plus, or a wholesale app on other plans. Our technical lead holds both Shopify B2B credentials for exactly this.
Everything else
URLsDoes not
Shopify enforces its own paths. Every old URL gets a 301 to its new home. See the redirect map above.
Theme and designDoes not
Rebuilt on Shopify, either matching your current look or redesigned. Theme builds start from $1.5k and are quoted separately.
Apps, plugins, extensionsDoes not
Each one is matched to a Shopify app or native feature. Anything with no match gets built, or you decide it was never needed.
ReviewsMoves
Exported and imported through your review app (Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox and others all support it). Star ratings and photos included.
Blog posts and pagesMoves
Re-formatted for Shopify, images re-hosted, internal links rewritten to the new URLs.
Tracking, pixels, Merchant Center feedRebuilt
GA4, Meta pixel, Google Ads and the Shopping feed are set up fresh and verified before launch, so paid and Shopping traffic does not drop on day one.
Wishlists, abandoned carts, saved cardsDoes not
Nothing exports these cleanly. We tell you now so you can plan a re-engagement email rather than discover it after launch.
How a Shopify migration runs here.
Your current store keeps selling the whole time. The new one is built beside it, loaded, tested, then switched.
We crawl the store, count everything, and send a written plan with a fixed price.
Redirect map, one row per URL. Data map, one row per field.
Theme, apps, custom data, integrations. Replies within four hours.
Products, customers, orders, reconciled against the source after each wave.
Checkout, shipping, taxes, emails, redirects, search. Desktop and phone.
DNS moves at a quiet hour with redirects already live. Then 30 days of watching.

What a Shopify migration costs here.
Every other agency on this search hides the number. Ours is the same for merchants and agencies, so we publish it.
Fixed quote in writing after the free audit. If we misjudged the effort, that is our cost, not yours.
Three things move the number
- Catalog sizeProducts, variants, and whether you cross the 50,000-variant limit.
- Custom dataSpec tables, attributes, B2B pricing, subscriptions.
- What the theme doesMatch your current store, or a new design from $1.5k.
What is not in the quote
Your Shopify plan, any paid apps, and a new design if you want one. All three are listed before you sign, so the number you sign is the number you pay.

Bolton Engineering: the migration most agencies quote six months for.
Every metafield and spec table intact. The catalog crossed Shopify's 50,000-variant ceiling, so imports ran in scheduled waves and were reconciled after each one.

Why not a migration app, or Shopify's own importer?
Sometimes you should. Under 200 products, no custom fields, a standard theme: Shopify's free importer will do, and you do not need us. Here is where each one stops.

|---|---|---|---|
| Products, customers, orders | Yes, per record | Products and customers, some platforms | Yes, reconciled after every wave |

Will my Google rankings drop when I migrate to Shopify?
They can wobble for one to two weeks while Google recrawls. Recovery depends on the redirect map: one 301 per old URL, loaded before DNS moves, with titles, metas and product schema carried across. We do not promise "no drop", because nobody controls Google. We promise the map, the monitoring and a daily report for 30 days.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
Stores under 5,000 products on a configured theme typically go live in 3 to 6 weeks. Large catalogs, custom data and B2B pricing add time, and the audit tells you how much before you commit. Past 50,000 variants, Shopify allows 1,000 new variants a day, so very large catalogs are scheduled in waves.
How much does it cost to migrate to Shopify?
$70 an hour, quoted as a fixed number in writing after the free audit. Catalog size, custom data and theme work are the three drivers. Your Shopify plan, paid apps and a new design (from $1.5k) are separate and listed before you sign. Full pricing is public.
Will my store go down during the switch?
No. The new store is built and loaded while the old one keeps selling. DNS switches at a quiet hour with the redirects already live, and orders placed in the final hours on the old store are synced across afterwards.
Do my customers have to create new accounts?
Their accounts exist on the new store before launch, with addresses and order history. Passwords do not move, because no platform exports them. Customers get an activation email we write and test. With Shopify's new customer accounts they sign in with a one-time code and never set a password at all.
Does my order history come across?
Yes, imported as historical orders. Customers see them in their account and your team can look them up in Shopify admin. Original order numbers are kept where the source platform exports them. Refunds and payment details come across as records, not live transactions.
Which platforms do you migrate from?
Magento and Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Volusion, PrestaShop, OpenCart, custom builds, and other Shopify stores. Each has its own quirks, which is why every migration starts with a free audit of the actual store.
Will my apps, ERP, email tool and subscriptions still work?
Apps do not move; each is matched to a Shopify app or native feature, and the ones with no match get built. Klaviyo, ERPs and accounting tools reconnect through their own Shopify integrations, tested before launch. Subscriptions move through the subscription app's migration, with card tokens transferred processor to processor.
Should I redesign at the same time?
Only if the design is part of why you are leaving. Migration plus redesign is two projects, and combining them makes it harder to tell what changed if a number moves. Most clients migrate onto a theme that matches their current store, watch the 30 days, then redesign with data in hand.
Can you migrate a Magento B2B store with customer groups and tier pricing?
Yes, and it is the most involved migration we do. Customer groups become Shopify B2B companies and catalogs on Plus, or a wholesale app on other plans. Tier pricing, payment terms and net-30 accounts are rebuilt rather than copied. The audit tells you which rules map natively and which need building.
What if something breaks after launch?
You email or message us and hear back within four hours; it is in the contract. For 30 days after launch we watch Search Console, the 404 report and checkout errors daily, so most problems are found and fixed before you notice them.
